Ascendancy

The Ascendancy is a confederation of magically and/or psionically endowed alien races such as aboleths, beholders, and illithids, among others, and their respective enslaved minions. However, it is surmised that the most prominent group is the mind flayers, who seem to be its most visible members. The Ascendancy primarily operates in the Underdark, but its influence is disturbingly not limited there.

History

The Ascendancy is thought to be an ancient organization that arose with the decline of its member races' civilizations and the growing ascension of humankind and like races.
