Andorian Empire

From Tides of Amoraithe

The Andorian Empire was a country in northern Athelonesia. At its height, the Andorian Empire's southern border was the Sarbech River. Its northern and western borders lie along the Ioneisean Sea along its Northern Seherron Coast. Its eastern border was the northernmost range of the Khalkist Mountains. Its capital was Narizdun.

History

Rise of the Andorian Dynasty

The Starsbourne Curse, beginning in -856 PR, caused the eventual collapse of the Ioneisean Empire, decimating a vast majority of its aetherborn population. Thus, power increasingly fell into the hands of the Velas and the elves, their former slave populations.

By the time of the sinking of Ioneisea in -634 PR, many former imperial cities transitioned into city-states ruled by the Velans and elves. Only a smattering of the empire's former cities were still controlled by aetherborn, and these too were disjointed political entities, a mere shadow of the formerly unified empire.

Palmithra was one of the last cities with a sizeable aetherborn population. was one of the more powerful and prominent of these entities. It was ruled by a republic established by the Aetherborn, who became disillusioned with the Ioneisean regime and turned their back on Elegrim's teachings. The Palmithran aetherborn abhorred slavery and freed them whenever possible, including them in their community in nearly all roles, even their senate. Now, Palmithra was wholly ruled by the descendants of former Velan and elven slaves.

In 11 PR, Palmithra, one of the last surviving Ioneisean cities, was overrun by Narizdun, a city of zealous followers of the god Arghris. Victorious, First Patriarch Andorias I razed Palmithra to the ground, forcefully resettling the human populace while slaughtering or outright enslaving the elven elements. Palmithra's treasures were taken to Narizdun.

Phyrangian Campaign

Orgoth Invasion

Around 423 PR, an Orgothan invasion fleet arrived on the Herrenhorn Peninsula; a magnificent yet frightening sight not witnessed since the dragon kings attempted to conquer Ioneisea eons ago.

In their initial onslaught, Orgoth annexed the Kingdom of Harrenhorn, then turned towards the Andorian Empire through its Waymoot province, eventually laying siege to the city of Rivvek.

Dissolution of Empire

The Palmithran Empire collapsed after the assassination of Andorias XXIV in 631 PR after a coup orchestrated in response to his increasingly tyrannical rule. His lack of legitimate heirs led to the War of the Exarchs (631-650 PR), with the sorcerer-king Maldwyn proving the victor of this conflict, founding the Kingdom of Sithras.

Government

The Andorian Empire was a theocracy dedicated to the worship of Arghris, the Flamebearer. The secular emperor was additionally considered the Senior High Priest, while the exarchs, who served also as secular governors, were considered High Priests of the faith.

Religion

The Andorian Empire exclusively worshipped Arghris. Those found practicing other faiths were generally persecuted. Exile, enslavement, or execution was the fate of many a nonbeliever.

Provinces

The Andorian Empire consisted of several provinces, each of which was technically a fiefdom ruled by an exarch.

  • Province of Palmithra: This province was decimated by the advance of the Marsh of Delcimbre.
  • Province of Sithras: The capital of this province was Sithras City.
  • Province of Waymoot: The province of Waymoot was created after the empire conquered Camlen in 413 PR and was later expanded to include parts of Neumenia in 480 PR.
