Kingdom of Phyrangia

The Kingdom of Phyrangia was a country in central Athelonesia. Phyrangia's borders primarily encompassed those of modern Sithras'. The exception was the Sarbech River, which served as Phyrangia's traditional northern border. Its capital was Camlen.

History

Early History

Before the Dorenti, the Sorval Valley was inhabited by the Velas, survivors of the civilization destroyed by the Ioneisean Empire. The Dorenti arrived through a series of migrations from southern Athelonesia that occurred during the -740s PR. They too were the battered remnants from a conflict against a conquering host, in the case of the latter, the Ankaidou, who drove the Dorenti from the Ascaedi Wilds. Ultimately, the two cultures would intermarry and become indistinguishable.

In -532 PR, the Ankaidou invaded the valley. It was only through the Phyrangi's leadership and ingenuity that the Dorenti prevailed. Vedestes used the invaders' inherent fear of forests against them, and never again did the Ankaidou try to enter the valley, believing them accursed.

Rise of the City of Camlen

The Andorian Empire grew in northern Athelonesia as the Dorenti continued to dominate the central part of the continent. However, the Dorenti had begun to split into two distinct clans, the Phyrangi and the Neumeni.

The Phyrangi were influenced by the Andorian Empire, primarily becoming sedentary. It is from here in -56 PR that the "Kingdom of Phyrangia" is first referenced. From its capital of Camlen, it was noted as exercising influence over a series of tributary states.

The kingdom would grow to control many Neumeni tribes, but a large portion of them still preferred to remain free of the trappings of civilization, living with nature as the Dorenti once did as a whole.

Conflict With the Andorian Empire

With the continued encroachment of the Marsh of Delcimbre across its northern dominion, the Andorian Empire, forced by a growing lack of livable land, set its sights across the Sarbech River into Dorenti territory.

These incursions began with the settling of colonies along the river, aggressively clearing the forests with ax and fire as Arghris demanded. Those actions were enough to draw Dorenti reprisals, but the settlement of Caldunoin at the mouth of the Sarbech brought the worst of Andorian insults. Its denizens forced conversions or enslavement upon the Dorenti people.

The Spiritual Schism and Dissolution of the Kingdom

The Phyrangi and Neumeni split due to their respective cultural and religious differences pressure by the based upon them by the Andorian Empire.

The Phyrangi, a semi-civilized tribe by Pelverran sensibilities, readily adopted the Known Gods and traded extensively with one another. The aggressive and xenophobic Neumeni and the highly spiritual Vedesti tribes chose to adhere to their old customs, fiercely resisting conversion.

After the death of a prominent Phyrangian king, his realm was partitioned between his two sons, who formed the Kingdom of Camlen and the Kingdom of Neumenia in 230 PR, respectively. The brothers' feud would weaken both realms enough that the Andorian Empire would eventually annex both.

Government

The government of Phyrangia was a monarchy.
