Kingdom of Nymorra

From Tides of Amoraithe

The Kingdom of Nymorra was a monarchy in northern Athelonesia. Its capital was Caldunoin.

History

During the height of the Andorian Empire, the Dorenti of northern Athelonesia were driven into the Marshes of Delcimbre after several pogroms, where they remained forgotten and contained for many generations. The degradation of the quality of the emperors allowed power to fall increasingly into the hands of the exarchs. By the 6th century, with the weakening of the empire's military, the Dorenti were emboldened enough to push south.

In 591 PR, Nessandra, the daughter of an Andorian client chieftain, was forced to become the concubine of Caldunoin's governor after her husband's passing, as she too was considered part of the inheritance. Escaping around 595 PR, she became a powerful sorceress and tactician; retreating to Delcimbre, she created a formidable force. In 599 PR, she led raids against Caldunoin Province, drawing the governor's ire. Using guerrilla tactics, she managed to trap the governor, killing him and avenging herself, but her ultimate goal was to take Caldunoin to provide a suitable home for her people.

An Andorian-raised Dorenti general, Brondalwyr, replaced the previous governor. Brondalwyr had been stationed in Caldunoin since 594 PR, as his Dorenti origins were believed to be an asset in dealing with the local tribals. As governor, he often led forays into the marches to fight raiders. During one such sortie, he was captured during a surprise assault in 603 PR. Brondalwyr became disillusioned with Palmithra as a prisoner, seeing the injustices they rendered upon his captors. Eventually, taking Nessandra as a lover, he championed her cause, unifying various clans under her banner. In 612 PR, the Dorenti captured Caldunoin.

Brondalwyr was assassinated by jealous chieftains led by a heated rival, Leomer, in 616 PR. Nessandra disappeared the following year, possibly in mourning for her lover, perhaps secretly assassinated as well.

Brondalwyr and Nessandra's son, Caswallon I, slew Leomer in battle in 619 PR, beginning a period of warfare against other Dorenti tribes that continued to oppose him. In 626 PR, Caswallon pacified the worst of his detractors through the sword or diplomacy, thereby winning over his supporters and many of his rivals and earning their recognition as king of the Nymorran Dorenti.

Nymorra's decline began in 782 PR with the emergence of the Velashaar Horde, rampaging from the Khalkist Mountains. An aging King Caswallon II defeated the horde east of Caldunoin in 798 PR, forcing them to route south into Sithras, but the damage had been done. His passing, however, led to a period of incompetent or tyrannical successors - sometimes both. Further, the Kingdom of Sithras, claiming a political marriage between the two realms, absorbed the kingdom in 935 PR. During the following century, Brondalwyr's paternal line was extinguished.
